David Johnson Catrow was born young, short, very pink and very hairless. Those around him in that first year of life will also recall his difficulty in walking and a profound inability to verbally communicate even the simplest of concepts. Endless amounts of drooling and persistent inconsolable crying accounted for serious misunderstandings as to what the artist needed. These messy things were simply discounted as clear evidence that he was hungry or had messed in his diaper; when all he wanted was a drawing instrument and some decent acid-free paper. Once given these rudimentary items the creature was happy ever after; still messing his diaper-but the drooling finally stopped.
